Episode from KRON-TV's Decades series made in 1999 which uses original news footage and contemporary interviews to reflect on Bay Area history from 1910-1919 including issues relating to: the opening of Angel Island as an immigration station; the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition; womens right to vote; the sinking of the pasenger cruise liner RMS Titanic in 1912; the Hetch Hetchy reservior system; the impact of major engineering and public works projects on San Francisco's development; the pilot Lincoln Beachey's life exploits and death; World War I; Labor disputes; the 1916 Preparedness Day Parade Bombing; the Barbary Coast entertainment district; a flu epidemic and the development of jazz music in San Francisco. Also features interviews with: Gray Brechin; Dr. Kevin Starr; Sue Englander; Gladys Hansen; Donna Ewald; Frank Marrero; Professor Robert Cherny; Tom Stoddard; Daniel Bacon and Robert Plank. This program was produced and written by Ken Swartz narrated by Gina Taylor and edited by Heid Schmidt Emberling.
