Description
KTVU news footage from 1966 featuring brief scenes from an interview with Richard Nixon, who is commenting on California's Gubernatorial race between Democratic incumbent Pat Brown and the Republican candidate Ronald Reagan. Nixon - who lost to Brown in the 1962 governor's race - feels this time: "That Brown has shot his wad. I think ... what he did was in August he went off again on that tired old charge of extremism, which he uses against every one of his opponents. It's fallen flat and now Reagan is pulling ahead and I think Reagan now, from now on, will pull ahead." Note that Reagan did go on to win this election in November by a large majority and Nixon became the 37th US President in 1969. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
