Description
KTVU news footage from March 10 1969 featuring brief scenes from an interview with the British Shadow Transport Minister Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013) in San Francisco. She is asked to describe the recent visit of newly inaugurated President Richard Nixon to London, England from 24-26 February 1969. Thatcher characterizes Nixon's visit as "highly successful" and interupts the Ch.2 reporter rather sternly to caution him: "Don't underestimate the influence of personalities on world events. Unless you get this point, you'll never see the significance of Presidential or Head of State tours. They are tremendously important." Thatcher was exploring San Francisco's new BART public transportation system that day and delivered a speech at the Mark Hopkins Hotel in the evening: 'Preparing for the Future - Britain and America'. Note that Thatcher would eventually become the British Prime Minister from 1979-1990. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
