Dick Gregory Speaks at CSU Hayward

KTVU news footage from April 19th 1968 featuring a speech by comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory, at CSU Hayward's gymnasium. Gregory focuses on civil rights legislation, disruption of the U.S. "riot season" and how to introduce elderly relatives to television footage of social protest. At one point Gregory tries to put the recent killing of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. into context for his audience: "We are living in a country that's so prone to killing baby, that a man of peace and kindness and love - like Dr. Martin Luther King - can die a violent death. Hated by Americans, while our generals of the army is loved, with big parades and standing ovations. That's the mess you youngsters is fixin to inherit." This report is presented by Gary E. Park.
