Description
KTVU news footage from 1963 featuring scenes from a press conference by American Baptist pastor and politician Adam Clayton Powell, who speaks about the troubles in Birmingham AL, the delay with civil rights legislation and the racial "hypocrisy" of the so called "North." Powell claims: "In the South they're honest, in the North they're hypocrites. The South rejects the mass but will select individuals. The North says we love all negroes and they still select - or fail to select - individuals. It's hypocrisy." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
