Family Study Room

Room 263 on the second floor is specially furnished for adults and kids to use together.

Here's what you'll find inside:

  • Two desks with chairs and an adjustable-height standing desk
  • One desktop PC
  • Child-sized table and chairs
  • Pack N Play
  • Infant seat
  • Comfy armchair
  • Books and toys for various ages
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Disinfecting wipes, handheld vacuum, trash and recycling bins

This study room is available during Main Library hours on a drop-in basis. Those who are accompanied by children have priority use of this shared space.

Child care is not provided. Kids, please stay with your adults. Adults, please stay with your kids.

The door is locked with keypad entry. Stop by the Book Checkout & Pickup Desk to get the code — and maybe pick up a Kid Kit to use during your visit.

The books in the study room were donated by members of the campus community. You don't need to check them out, but please bring them back to the room if you take them anywhere else. (Same for the toys.)

Please sign in when you arrive and fill out a feedback form when you leave so we can continue to improve this space.

Kid Kits

Our Kid Kits are backpacks filled with age-appropriate toys, books, and activities that you can check out for up to four hours when the Book Checkout & Pickup Desk is open, Monday through Friday (check Library Hours).

Explore the options on our Library of Things page! We have Kid Kits for ages 0 – 2, 3 – 6, and 6 – 10.

We also keep a small Kids Cabinet in the Study Commons on the ground floor (basement) for those who use the Library on the weekends, when the desk is closed. Look for the small rainbow cart filled with coloring materials, toys, and books. You can take a few things to a table or wheel the cart into a study room.

Lactation Room

A small Lactation Room is down the hall from the Family Study Room in room 267. Register with Health Promotion & Wellness to get access to all lactation rooms on campus.

Tips for Visiting with Kids

Kids can go anywhere in the library with their adults, but we understand if you prefer an enclosed space of your own. That's why we have the drop-in Family Study Room on the second floor. In addition, we have reservable study rooms on the first floor and the ground floor (basement). Learn more about reserving a room.

Changing tables are available in all restrooms, which are across from the elevators on all floors. An all-gender restroom is located on the ground floor.

The Children’s and Young Adult book collection (fourth floor) includes books for various ages that you can check out. Please note that the fourth floor is a quiet floor.

This isn't a silent library. Talking in an inside voice is okay — except on the fourth floor and in other marked quiet study areas.
