Description
KRON-TV news footage from October 31st 1969 at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco featuring a press conference by a citizens coalition, who want to prevent Alcatraz Island from being developed as a commercial tourist attraction. A spokesman refers to Alcatraz as the "gem" of the Bay Area and explains they don't want to see the island developed as just another tourist attraction. Another man emphasises the "ecological problem" facing the Bay itself. It should be noted that less than 3 weeks later, American Indians began an occupation of Alcatraz Island, which lasted until June 1971. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
