Description
Segments featuring interviews shot on February 23, 1962 that were used in a KRON Assignment Four special report titled 'Riddles on Wheels', which aired on April 2, 1962. Includes interviews with President of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Board of Directors Adrian J. Falk, real estate developer David D. Bohannon, State Senator Randolph Collier and State Senator John Francis McCarthy. These interviews are edited to show the pros and cons of funding a rapid transit system in the Bay Area: with Falk and Collier promoting the benefits of such a system and Bohannon and McCarthy expressing their reservations and proposing alternatives. Note that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors had voted to withdraw from the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District in December 1961 and Marin County also left in early 1962. The remaining three counties - San Francisco, Contra Costa and Alameda Counties - were asked to vote on a Bond issue to cover the cost of BART, which voters approved in November by a narrow margin.
