Día de Muertos/Day of the Dead

Dia de Los Muertos

The J. Paul Leonard Library is organizing an altar to commemorate Día de Muertos/Day of the Dead. This celebration to remember loved ones who have died takes place in Mexico and other countries in Latin America and Latine communities in the U.S. on November 1 and 2. The ofrendas (altars) include flowers, candy skulls, the favorite food and drink of the departed loved ones, and are decorated with the traditional papel picado, cempasúchil flowers, and photographs. We will have a physical ofrenda as well as a digital display.

We are inviting members of the SF State Community to share their photos and memories of their loved ones:

You can submit using the Google Form  (This option does require a Gmail account.)
You can email a photo to Dia_De_.bmkh6ya7bjgg858y@u.box.com which will automatically add it to a Box folder. (If you would like us to add a name for your photo, please make that the name of your image file.)
Or you can bring a physical photocopy of their image that we’ll place on the table. Please drop off physical photocopies at the Book Checkout Desk on the Main Floor of the Library.

The altar will go up on Friday, October 28, and run through Friday, November 4th.

Please consider participating in this beautiful celebration!
