Job Description: 

Job Description: Student employees hired for the Special Collections Reference Desk will register patrons and provide basic assistance about the collections and services available in the unit. Student employees provide support to Special Collections operations, including retrieval and re-shelving of materials that require special handling; enforcing policies regarding conversations, cell phone use, food/ drink and security in the reading room; and processing or data entry projects. Student employees will work collaboratively with Special Collections staff members, demonstrating flexibility with their assignments and directions.

 

Qualifications: 

Student Qualifications:

*Ability to maintain a fixed worked schedule throughout the semester. 

*Ability to handle rare and fragile material.

*Attention to detail.

*Ability to provide high-quality public service. 
*Ability to articulate Special Collections policies and services to a diverse campus community. 
*Working knowledge of Library catalog, MS Office and web browsers. 

*Energetic, outgoing, approachable. 

*Ability to lift 40 pounds.

*Any experience working with archives or manuscript collections is highly desired.

*Any experience with Filemaker, Archivists Toolkit, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver is highly desired. 

 

 

Work Hours: 

Monday through Thursday from 1pm,-5pm, up to 20 hours per week.

You must be enrolled full-time at SFSU to be employed in a Work-Study position (12 units - undergraduates, 8 units - graduates)..

The Student Assistant program is NOT a financial aid program. It is funded by the State and provides part-time, on-campus positions available to students who are enrolled at least half-time at SFSU (6 units - undergraduates, 4 units - graduates).
