Job Description: 

Primary duties will involve work in the Library Retrieval System (LRS) and shelving books in the open stacks areas. Under supervision, performs work that is routine and repetitive in nature and involves clerical and/or manual tasks, scanning books, moving book trucks and loading bins in the LRS. Moderately heavy work, lifting and pushing fully loaded book trucks is required. Bending and reaching or using footstools will be routine. The work may be varied in subject matter and may require the ability to work under pressure. Availability to work 8AM shifts is preferred. Work shifts of two or more hours required. A minimum of 10 hours per week is also required. Maximum 20 hours per week while classes are in session.

Student Qualifications: No previous library experience is required. Must learn the library’s classification systems, both Library of Congress and the Dewey Decimal System. Must learn a menu driven computer software unique to the LRS and a library management system, Ex Libris Alma. Ability to push heavy book trucks short distances; standing for extended periods of time; bending and lifting heavy book will be required. Maintaining an agreed upon semester-long work schedule is required. Only fully completed applications will be considered.

You must be enrolled full-time at SFSU to be employed in a Work-Study position (12 units - undergraduates, 8 units - graduates)..

The Student Assistant program is NOT a financial aid program. It is funded by the State and provides part-time, on-campus positions available to students who are enrolled at least half-time at SFSU (6 units - undergraduates, 4 units - graduates).
