Job Description: 

With moderate supervision, assists Library users at a busy public service desk.
Duties include checking library materials in and out, issuing Library cards, registering Library patrons, updating patron data in the Library system, assisting Library patrons in the general use of the Library online catalog, picking up books from the Library book return bins and the Library Retrieval System, shelving Library hold and reserve materials, answering basic Library informational and directional questions, answering phones, and assisting Library staff with other Library-related tasks as assigned.


General knowledge in the use of libraries and library services; good verbal communication skills to interact courteously and effectively in a busy public service environment; willingness to be helpful; attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy when completing tasks; experience in working with personal computers.
Maintaining an agreed upon semester-long work schedule is required.
Library or public service experience preferred.

Work Hours: 

Hours Flexible availability for schedules with hours ranging from 8am – 11pm daily, up to 20 hours per week.

The Student Assistant program is NOT a financial aid program. It is funded by the State and provides part-time, on-campus positions available to students who are enrolled at least half-time at SFSU (6 units - undergraduates, 4 units - graduates).
