Professor Janiewski will explore the spy networks used by the US government in repeated attempts to deport ILWU leader Harry Bridges as a purported communist from the 1930s to the 1950s. Bridges’ lawyers created their own protective network of sources to defend the fiery labor leader in order to defeat these orchestrated attacks. Janiewski conducted extensive research within the Labor Archives’ Norman Leonard and Harper Knowles collections.
