CONCERT: Student Concert Hour Celebrating Clementi Fortepiano Anniversary
CONCERT: Student Concert Hour Celebrating 50 Years with the Clementi Fortepiano
The following School of Music students from all levels will play classics on the de Bellis Collection’s historic Clementi fortepiano: Michaela Overall, Hewen Pan, Kim Marcellini, Bonnie (Chung Lam) Law, Hussein Al-Nasrawi, Jiaze Ma, and Alice Kubo.
Fifty years ago, Serena de Bellis (1922-2017) acquired a fortepiano (manufactured in London by Musio Clementi & Co., circa 1808-1809) for the Frank V. de Bellis Collection that still supports our music curriculum. The harpsichord-shaped frame constructed of oak and mahogany offers a gentle sound – transparent and capable of subtle nuance familiar to the great composers of the era.
