Starting May 24th and lasting until August 22nd library staff and faculty assisted by a large crew of students will be working 6 days a week, 16 hours a day to move more than a million books and other items from the old Library into the new west addition.
During the Book Move you’ll need to use the Link+ system to request books. Link+ gives you access to the collections of more than 40 academic and public libraries in California and Nevada. Most of the collections we’re moving over the summer will be loaded into the Library Retrieval System, which fills the ground, first and second floors of the west addition. The rest of the collection will be placed on open stacks on the 3rd and 4th floors.
Scope of the Move
- One million books to Library Retrieval System (LRS)
- 300,000 government documents to LRS
- 2.5 million microform units to LRS
- 100,000 media items to LRS
- 200,000 volumes to future open stacks
The Big Book Move is a significant milestone for the Library building project. Once completed, the contractor can begin the last phase of the project: gutting and renovating the old building.
