If you guys aren't getting emails, you might want to, you know, actually check your SFSU email accounts. Or at least have your email forwarded to an email you actually use.

I agree that it is incredibly annoying and inconvenient not to be able to browse the stacks or get a book we want immediately, but that's just how it goes. They should have tossed all the books into the "other" bubble across from the Annex (what the heck is it being used for, anyway?)

Glad I'm done after this semester! Might put off coming back for my MA until the library re-opens 'cause I can't deal with the current library situation...

We are trying to determine if there is a problem with email notification that goes beyond the typical forwarding issues. At this point it's unclear, most people are getting notifications, but not all. Library Annex 2, the "other" bubble, is where most of the Library faculty and staff work.

We need to have access to books over the weekend-- that's a primary time for doing research papers for many students. Please find a way to make this possible.

The agreement with the contractor working on the Library building project only allows us to be in the old Library building to retrieve books when they are on the job site, which is Monday - Friday. We realize this is extremely inconvenient during busy periods like finals and mid-terms.

I also have NOT received email to alert me that my reserved books are ready for pick-up, I've had to stop in to check on the status. I've checked on my library account and I cannot find information there that indicates if my requests are waiting for pick up, and when I asked staffers what the info on my account actually meant, I was told "we don't know". I asked via phone and in person for someone to explain how this process is supposed to be working, and I keep hearing "we don't know".

I was told that folks are actually manually sending alert emails out once books arrive in HSS 102 and they sort through them, and that they are "behind" because they have hundreds of book requests a day and not enough staff.
Your books may actually be there waiting for you, but poor planning is keeping you from being alerted. Also, when looking for your books on the shelves, check all around where you book *should* be, I've had one that was mis-alphabetized and was told "sorry, we can't find it we don't know what to tell you". I eventually found it after searching all the shelves.

I was also told that books are being pulled and delivered to HSS 102 "two times a day", but they have so many requests (and not enough staff) that they are having trouble getting requests within the 24 hours they ask for.

This set-up is hardly an alternative to actual library services for an academic institution. These conditions are unacceptable.

I'm working on a master's thesis in addition to several term papers, and like countless other students here, I'm utterly disappointed. I deserve faster, more transparent access to materials and library services than this.

Can we access the library system to request the books in HSS?

Yes you can use the Library system to look for and request books. We've put two computers in HSS 101, two in HSS 107 and one in HSS 127. We plan to add a third computer in HSS 107 soon. You can also get to the Library system from any Web browser in HSS or from any other building on campus or elsewhere.

FYI, we're told that we'll receive an email when our books are delivered to HSS 102 but this is my second order with them and I didn't receive an email in either case. I never received an email when my LINK+ books arrived either, for that matter.

Yes, you should be getting an email when items you've requested are ready to pickup. We send these notices to your SFSU email address. You can go to Distribution services in HSS 102 to check on the status of your Library account.
