Deliveries of collections and shelving will occur through the 1st floor Holloway Ave. entrance and Research Commons the mornings of April 5 – May 4. Students may wish to relocate to the Study Commons on the Ground floor when it reopens at 8:00 a.m.

Students and faculty will continue to request books they want from the Library Retrieval System using the online catalog, but the books should now be available within 15-20 minutes. Eligible borrowers can request books any time 24/7 from any computer anywhere using the online catalog and have the books waiting for them to pick up when they next come to the Library. Requested items are held on the LRS Book Pickup shelves for six calendar days. Books not picked up within six days are returned to the collection.

Floors Ground through Four of the Library opened to the public on Monday, March 26. Students and faculty are now able to browse the open shelves on the 3rd and 4th floors and select books they want to check out. The selection of books in the open shelves vs. those that are in the Library Retrieval System is a work in progress. If you want to provide input on the selection of books on open shelves, please contact the library faculty liaison for the relevant subject area.

There are 4 Macintoshes with Final Cut Pro, and one Macintosh audio editing station running Pro Tools, in the Library. This equipment will initially be located in the group study rooms 40F and 40G in the Study Commons on the Ground floor, beginning Monday, March 26. SF State students, faculty and staff only. Sign up at the Study Commons service counter. Orientation on use of the equipment is available by request.
Later in the spring semester, the Library will open the Digital Media Studio for students in room 260 on the second floor and relocate this equipment there. We will let you know when the Digital Media Studio is ready to open.

All Library online services including requesting books from the Library Retrieval System are available again following the relocation of servers supporting these services. These services include access to databases, full text electronic journal articles, the online catalog, Link+ and ILLiad.

The Library will be closed the weekends before and after spring recess, and open 8:00 am-5:00 pm Mon.-Fri. March 19-23 during spring recess. On Monday, March 26, we expect to open all areas of the Library and Academic Technology on floors Ground through Four to the University community.
The reopened Library will include over 3000 seats for quiet and group study, over 250 public computers, a Digital Media Studio for students with 9 editing rooms, and extended hours study areas with 18 group study rooms. The Research Commons on the First floor will be open 24/7 during the rest of spring semester with the exception of the campus closure day on Cesar Chavez Day, Friday, March 30. The Study Commons on the Ground floor will be open from 8:00 am-2:00 am Mon.-Fri., and from 10:00 am-2:00 am Sat. and Sun. Most other areas of the Library will be open Mon.-Thurs. 8 am-10 pm, Fri. 8 am-6 pm, Sat. 10 am-6 pm, and Sun. 12 noon-9 pm. The entire Library building will be closed on the campus closure day on Cesar Chavez Day, Friday, March 30.
New J. Paul Leonard Library

As a part of reopening the Leonard Library, the current periodicals that have been available in Library Annex I will be packed and moved to their new location on the 3rd floor of the Library. Beginning Wednesday March 14, current periodicals will be packed and be inaccessible until they are moved and available in the Library.

All Library online services will be available until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, and only requests for books from the Library Retrieval System will be affected on Monday. Servers that support access to databases, full text electronic journal articles, the online catalog, Link+ and ILLiad will not be shutdown until 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20. If the relocation of the servers goes smoothly as we expect it will, these services should be available again some time on Wednesday, March 21. But there is always a chance that something unexpected may happen so we cannot guarantee that all services will be restored on Wednesday.
The following Library online services will be unavailable during a period over spring break starting Monday, March 19th at 8am until potentially as late as Friday, morning March 23rd at 8am while we move our servers into the Leonard Library building:
- Library Online Catalog
- Library Retrieval System
- Library databases
- Library website
- OASIS tutorial
While all services may be unavailable until Friday, March 23rd, we encourage you to check from time to time before then as they may be available sooner.
Electronic Reserves in iLearn will not be affected and will be available throughout spring recess.

The Ground floor entrance is now open on the west side of the building. The entrance can be used to access the 1st floor lobby by stairs or elevator. Faculty reserve drop-off service is available at this ground floor entrance as well.

The drop-off for faculty members to submit materials for reserve is now located in Digitization Services on the Ground floor, room 80, just inside the Ground floor entrance of the J. Paul Leonard Library.
The hours will be the same as in HSS: Mon.-Fri. 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Mon.-Thurs. 5:00-7:00 p.m. by appointment.
