We’ve made some progress with providing support to our microfilm/ fiche collections!
1. Microfilm requests -Patrons have access to SF Chronicle (microfilm) on the 3rd floor. (The microfilm cabinets are located near the Library Administration office, across from the bank of microfilm readers.) For other microfilm titles, patrons need to submit an email request to: firstname.lastname@example.org. We have someone checking this email account on a regular basis. It’s extremely important to submit relevant citation information! (Example: Time Magazine, volume 101, Issue 1, January 29th, 1973.) Once the reel is found in our Library retrieval system, patrons will be notified and they can pick up the reel at “Book Checkout Area” with their OneCard or appropriate ID. (An online request form will be available soon! ) For now, we can’t provide an exact turn-around time for requests. Some microfilm requests may require additional searching and some are unavailable. Ditto microfiche.
2. New Instructions! I’ve completed four new sets of instructions for using our micro-format collection. Now, there are separate instructions for microfilm, microfiche, scanning, and printing — INCLUDING photos! I’ve placed one set near the microfilm reader across from the “3rd Floor Help Desk” and another set near the microfilm readers, close to the Library Administration Office.
3. New Machines! We’re hoping to purchase a few NEW microfilm reader/ printers/ scanners next year. They’ll be similar to the ones on the 5th floor – Sutro Library. Check them out!
That’s it for now. Please add a comment or question if you’re so inclined!
