Today, April 30, 2012, we set up two pieces of furniture behind the Research Commons Service Desk to help handle very busy periods of demand for laptop circulation. A table is labeled for returns and the shelving right behind the desk labeled for charged up laptops ready for checkout. The idea is that it will speed up processing when lines are long and there are a lot of laptops being returned and checked out at the same time. This way the desk staff will not have to walk all the way back to the carts in the IT room to replace and retreive laptops. This should save time and energy for everyone. It is designed to make sure that returning laptops that need to be recharged before being circulated again will be kept separate on the table from the fully charged units on the shelves. Then when things slow down for a bit the returned/discharged machines can be replaced in the cart for charging. A supply of bags should also be kept nearby though these can include the bags just returned. As of today all the bags should have working chargers in them thanks to Chris and Kim.
