Students frequently call, IM or come into the Annex asking for materials that their instructor has put “On Reserve.” Students may be using the term “reserve” to refer several types of materials: hardcopy reserves (printed articles or books), electronic reserves, materials in iLearn, and/or books they’ve requested from our catalog or from LINK+.
Folks working at the service desks need to ask a few questions to determine what the students are seeking and should NOT routinely send the students to Reserve Services as they do not have a public service desk. Ask the student a few questions and work with them to determine the type of material they are seeking.
- Hardcopy Reserves: If it’s a hardcopy reserve, you can from the Library’s catalog (click on the tab labeled “Hardcopy Reserves”) and search by Course or Instructor. However, students need to go to HSS 102 to request/ retrieve Hardcopy Reserves during their business hours.
- Electronic Reserves: Found under “QuickLinks,” you can search for the materials by course, Department or Instructor (try several ways). The student will need the password provided by the instructor.
- iLearn: have the student log in to iLearn to see if the materials they are seeking are there.
- Books or other materials requested by students: If the student has requested materials from our collections or LINK+ they will need to go to HSS 102 to see if the material has arrived.
