Library Administrative Manual
6.4.1 Guidelines for Use of Library Information Commons, Annex I: Group Presentations and Computer Reservations
I. Purpose
Portions of the Information Commons in Annex I may be reserved for the use of library-related presentations when adequate alternative space on campus is not available. The SW corner space is used primarily for library instruction, but may also be used for library workshops, meetings and vendor demonstrations.
II. Facility and Use
Annex I is one large temporary space (26,000 square feet, 45’ high ceiling) with no acoustical separation, therefore sound carries throughout the entire facility.
Annex I has 70 Information Commons PC’s, 50 research computers, and 32 iMACs available to SFSU students, faculty and staff for general use.
The SW corner capacity allows up to 50+ hands-on computers (37 desktop computers plus an additional 10-15 laptops if needed). There is a projection unit. There is no amplification equipment.
III. Reservation Policy and Procedures
Library faculty/staff should reserve the space using the POWER reservation system at least one week in advance. Notify Information Commons staff that you have reserved the space. They will prepare the space: set up partition, projection unit, and laptops if needed, display signage alerting the public that the space is reserved, and reserve computers using Sign-On software.
IV. Exceptions
On occasion, Annex I instruction space may be used by other academic units. These occasions are limited to summer and winter intersession during low use periods. Requests should meet the following conditions:
- Requests are for one-time events and will not exceed more than two days in a 7 day period, typically no more than 4 hours in a day.
- No special software or hardware is required, nor will be installed during use.
- No special assistance from Library staff or students is necessary.
- The requested date and time do not conflict with a library-related reservation.
Contact Darlene Tong, Head of Information, Research & Instructional Services (dtong@sfsu.edu/ x82188) to make requests.
