3.6 Library Information Desk

I. Purpose

The Library Information Desk is designed to support the Library's commitment to the provision of basic information service by staff and faculty throughout the Library.

II. Information Desk Service

Any library employee may volunteer to staff the Information Desk at scheduled times each week. Participants provide the following:

  1. InvestiGator and directional assistance on-site and by telephone;
  2. Referral for users asking questions beyond the directional or holdings verification stage to the Reference Desk, Loan Desk, or service points as appropriate.

III. Duties Of The Information Desk Coordinator

  1. Determine hours of service and schedule participants, with the approval of the Assistant University Librarian for Administrative Services.
  2. Serve on the Library Education Committee.

IV. Implementation

Sample information desk schedule is attached.
